THE TOAST

I and all my friends
Grouped around
"Set em' up again
If excuse can be found"

Rain beats on the roof
Sad eyes looking so aloof
Dionysus says he can take no more,
"Lift me from the floor
And let me go"

In came a man
Whiskey flask tumbling in his hand,
Everyone could see his lonesome misery,
But "leave the bottle be"
Spoke solemn sobriety

"What's this I hear" said the soul
Reaching for a beer
Takes his mug down from the shelf
Dusting off himself
Says "my minds no better clear"

"Let's drink again"
Spoke the smiling face
Savoring the taste

"Lift your glasses high to the direction we must fly,
And to the earth,
To which we surely must return
